As Belarus celebrates its 80th independence day, Alexander Lukashenko, Europe's 'last dictator' and longest serving President, flexed his military might during the traditional parade. As part of his address, Lukashenko, predictably, took aim at the West for continuing unrest across the world and emphasised the enduring partnership between Belarus and 'brotherly' Russia. He also spoke of the new partnership his nation has with China which he characterised as a strategic partnership. In a rare display, Lukashenko also pardoned four political prisoners as part of the celebrations.
